Sometimes the simplest things can be the hardest to find when it comes to instructions. So it was with making a covered table for my St. Patrick's Day room box.
Covered Table When I started work on my St. Patrick's Day room box, I discovered there are very few instructions on how to take a Pringles™ can or juice can and make it into a covered table for a miniature room box or dollhouse.
To my granddaughter's delight, I chose one of the small cans of Pringles™ and had her empty the contents. With the empty can, cut the can to 2 5/8" tall and glued the plastic lid on the cut edge. Then cut a paper circle pattern that will drape over the can to form the tablecloth. Measure the height X2 plus the measurement across the can.
Drape the tablecloth over the can. Glue the tablecloth to the top, leaving the sides free. Using sewing pins (I used the ones with the beads on the top end) form the gathers or pleats by pinning four even sections. Then divide each of the four sections into even gathers. Make sure the gathers hang straight and evenly spaced.
Using a fabric stiffener, Spray the entire table covering the sides well. Let this dry overnight. After the table is completely dry, trim the bottom edge flush with the can. Make sure the pleats stay in place while cutting by leaving the pins until after the tablecloth is trimmed.
I made a white topper for the table by cutting a square to drape over the table. Before placing the topper, I glued lace along the edges. Again, using pins, I draped the topper and sprayed with fabric stiffener.
